The Melbourne Jazz Festival is an annual event; this year it takes place 2 – 11 June 2017. Performances for the festival will happen across different venues in Melbourne, Flinders Street and Swanston Street. There are events for families and children, jazz beginners and connoisseurs alike. The opening for the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival is a spectacular collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra – A Celebration of Ella and Louis featuring Patti Austin and James Morrison. The closing concert features Dianne Reeves, the world’s most-awarded female jazz vocalist. In between are 9 days filled with wonderful music and talent from all over Australia and all over the world.

The Great Ocean Road Running Festival is an annual event. This year it takes place 20 – 21 May, 2017. Thousands of participants will transcend to the southern coast of Victoria to run one of the most unique and picturesque marathons in the world. This used to be called the Great Ocean Road Marathon, but has morphed into a festival. In addition to the two day marathon from Lorne to Apollo Bay, there are other running events and activities like the 1.5 km Kid’s Gallop and the 60 km Ultra Marathon; a total of dix running distances to choose from. Plus, the Great Ocean Road Walk, Kite Festival in Lorne and Apollo Bay, Live Music at the Lorne Hotel, Free MOvies at the Lorne Theatre and a Wellness program that includes yoga and meditation classes on the Lorne Foreshore that runs in conjunction with the Lorne Sea Baths. The Great Ocean Road is filled with some of the most picturesque sights in Australia including the 12 Apostles, Gibson’s Steps, Great Otway National Park, Loch Ard Gorge, The Grotto, The Arch, and Port Fairy in addition to magnificent coastline beaches and surfing.

The High Country Harvest

The High Country Harvest takes place 5 – 21 May in North East Victoria. It’s known as the high country because of the mountains. This region is beautiful any time of the year, but autumn is particularly picturesque with the colours and the harvest. This year’s harvest festival incorporates 52 events that each celebrates the rich bounty innovative food, fine wine, and craft beer of the High Country. Everything has an emphasis on farm to table freshness, sustenance, and preservation. The types of events at the High Country Harvest include:

  • Meeting passionate growers for ‘hands in’ events that celebrate sustenance of soil, sun, and growing food.
  • Learning from the masters in ‘hands on’ events that focus on product, production, and producers with classes, tastings, and skill sharing.
  • Relaxing and indulging with food and wine ‘in hand’ with foodie feasts and wine tastings.

The National Gallery of Victoria is located is Melbourne on Kilda Street. Now through July 9th is the series on Van Gogh and the Seasons for the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces. It is presented in partnership with Art Exhibitions Australia. The exhibit invites viewers to explore the influences and themes that dominated a great deal of Van Gogh’s visionary artistry. You can see this fascinating display of Van Gogh’s work now through 9 July at the NVG in Melbourne.

On 9 June, Match 1 of the Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour: Brasil vs Argentina. The exciting football match will take place at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) at 8pm.
