Whether you need a car just to get around or because you are on a holiday, there are definitely different cars for different needs. When you go to rent a car, you might notice that there are many different classes of cars available. At budget, we usually have about 14 different classes of vehicles available. Don’t get overwhelmed or confused, we are here to demystify everything for you. Today, we will be talking about the different rental vehicles available to help you find the right rental car for you.
Category A: Economy Car – Nissan Micra 3/5Dr or similar
The economy car is small, even smaller than the average compact vehicle and is the least expensive car rental. So if budget is your primary concern, this is your best option. It is a ⅗ door hatch that seats up to 4 people, one large suitcase and one small suitcase.
Features include manual transmission, radio, CD player, and air conditioning.
Category B: Compact Car – Hyundai i20 5DR or similar
The compact car is a little roomier than the economy vehicle yet is still perfect for zipping around town and getting you where you need to go. It seats up to 4 people along with 1 large suitcase and one small suitcase. It is a ⅘ door with automatic transmission, air conditioning, and power steering.
Category C: Intermediate – Nissan Pulsar Hatch or similar
The intermediate level car is still small and easy to scoot around the city, but seats up to 5 people. If you have 5 people in your family, then this is the smallest size vehicle you can hire out. The trunk space allows for 1 large suitcase and two small suitcases. It is a ⅘ door with automatic transmission, 4 cylinder engine, and Bluetooth ready.
Category D: Standard – Nissan Pulsar Sedan or similar
The standard size category vehicle is a four door sedan that is still easy to travelwith, but offers a little more room for both passengers and baggage. It seats up to 5 people and has room for 2 large suitcases and one smaller suitcase. The features include automatic transmission, 4 cylinder engine, and Bluetooth ready.

Category D: Full Size -Toyota Camry or similar
A full size car rental is a step up from the standard with a few more added features. It is the same size -a four door sedan that seats 5 with trunk space for 2 large suitcases and one smaller suitcase. Features include automatic transmission, air conditioning, and airbag.
An SUV is a roomy vehicle that allows you to see the road. It is great for road trips, but this is an all-wheel-drive, not a 4WD, so consult with your Budget car rental agent to help you choose the right vehicle if you are driving into rugged terrain. As for the SUV, it is a taller vehicle that gives you a better command over the road and traffic while offering that extra room for passengers. In addition to AWD, the features include cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity and air conditioning.

Category F: Full Size Wagon – Holden Commodore Wagon or similar
The full size wagon offers extra space for passengers and luggage in the 5 door wagon. It has room for 5 people and three large suitcases plus two smaller suitcases. The features include automatic transmission, 6 cylinder engine, and air conditioning.

Category P: Full Size Sports – Holden SV6 or similar
If you want the room of a full size vehicle, but like the sportier look, then this is the car rental for you too choose. It is a four door sedan with a sleeker look than a wagon, but still has plenty of room for 5 people, two large suitcases and one smaller suitcase. Features include automatic transmission, V6, and air conditioning.
Category G: Premium – Holden Calais or similar
A premium car is great if you like a larger sedan, but are not quite on the budget for a luxury car. This car still looks very nice, has plenty of room, and lots of great features. If you are driving around guests from out of town and need a larger vehicle, this one offers the space and makes a nice impression too. It seats a total of 5 people with room for 2 large suitcases and one small suitcase. Features include automatic transmission, 4 or 6 cylinder engine, air conditioner, and airbags.
Category H: Luxury – Chrysler 300 c or similar
Driving in a luxury vehicle means extra features, roomy space, and the great look to go along with it. The luxury category car seats 5 and has trunk space for 2 large suitcases and one small suitcase. The features include automatic transmission, CD or MP3 player, climate control, airbags, and ABS brakes.
- Eco Friendly
Category L: Eco Friendly -Toyota Camry Hybrid or similar
If you have a long road trip and want to save money on gas while also helping lower your emissions footprint, then an eco-friendly sedan is just what you need. It is still roomy and fits five people. There is trunk space for two large suitcases and one small one; so you don’t have to sacrifice space for the eco-friendliness. Other features include automatic transmission, air conditioning, and ABS brakes.
Category W: 4WD – Mitsubishi Pajero or similar
There are many places and road trips in Australia where you will need a four wheel drive vehicle. A four wheel drive vehicle offers space for up to 5 people and enough storage space for two large suitcases and 2 small suitcases. Of course, this also means there is room for camping gear. The 4WD is a 5 door wagon that comes available in manual or automatic transmission, power steering, and air conditioning.
- Passenger Van
Category V: Passenger Van – Hyundai iMax 8 Seater or similar
If you have a large family or friends in town, the the 8 seater passenger van will suit your needs perfectly. However, keep in mind that with 8 people, there is only room for two small suitcases. The features for the 5 door van include automatic transmission, dual sliding doors, and air conditioning.
- Premium Coupe
Category S: Premium Coupe Hyundai Veloster or similar
A premium coupe is a great option for up to four passengers if you want a nicer, but smaller vehicle for getting around town. The trunk space can accommodate one large suitcase and one small suitcase. Features include air conditioning and airbags.
