Things to Do at the Taronga Zoo

The Taronga Zoo opened in 1916 near Sydney in the suburb of Mosman. It is a large zoo that has 8 regions over 21 hectares. The zoo is open 365 days a year. There are over 4,000 animals at the zoo, many different animal exhibits, shows and talks, and tours available. You can book overnight accommodations and plan events at the zoo as well.

Each day there are about 20 different scheduled shows, talks, or walks where you can see and learn all about the details on certain animals. The day you arrive, you should check the schedule of events to see what’s on and plan out your day. You can plan this out ahead of time using their website, but activities are subject to change, so refer to information you get upon arrival. Shoes fill up fast, so plan to get to them early.

Want to get up close and snuggle with an animal at the zoo? Each day you can see up to 5 different types of animals including koalas, reptiles, giraffes, penguin, and owl. The encounters are an additional fee besides admission, but they are well worth the price if you love to interact with and take photos with the animals.
